Morning-Bird

For the past year I have been working on a project I call Morning-Bird. The name refers to a song my
uncle wrote in which he tells a story about a song-bird that sings light to him in the morning. He
feels the light through his self-made prison and it brings him hope. Despite this, because of his
pain and loneliness he begs the bird to fly away. I interpret this song-bird as the hopes and
dreams deep in his heart, and I relate to him begging the bird to fly away. His melancholy
melody captures the forlorn grief that many of us feel when remembering the dreams and
imaginations of youth. Common feelings of shame or unworthiness. Yet no matter how cynical
or jaded one feels, that song-bird’s song, however faint, sings with every breath.
